Becoming A Security Guard in Alberta

In order to work as a security guard or security professional in Alberta you must possess a valid security license. Security services workers, including security guards, loss prevention workers, executive protection, patrol dog handlers and security alarm responders, must be licensed under the Security Services and Investigators Act (SSIA). In order to obtain a security guard license in Alberta, you must:

  1. Complete the application form for the license
  2. Provide copies of valid IDs along with your application form
  3. Provide proof that you have received security training that has been approved by the Alberta Solicitor General or the Ministry of Public Security
  4. Provide complete criminal record check along with any police information
  5. Provide a photograph, signed by a local police service
